I believe in returning all emails and calls. This was something I learned from my old CEO at Option Snowboards. No matter how small or big, I get back to everyone that emails or calls me. I try to respond within 48 hours. A lot of people make excuses like being too busy or traveling....my answer is YOU are NOT that BUSY....no one really is. I want to ensure people who contact me know that I am approachable and not above anything or place myself on a pedestal of hierarchy....I am just me, like you, a human being. Swaying Structures
Camera tricks are always fun, especially on iPhones. No photoshop or special editing needed to achieve this result. It’s simply an iPhone vertical panoramic. Shoot it by keeping the image straight starting from the bottom and finishing it with a 45° tilt towards the top. Bonus points for the guy passed out in the El Camino.

Oh Yeah - Steep & Deep in the San Juan National Forest
Record snowfall in Southern Colorado called for a trip to to the San Juan Mountain Range. Almost 6 feet of snow accumulated in 5 days which made for some unreal conditions and an overall surreal traveling adventure from Denver. Here’s a few iPhone and GoPro clips set to a Flume track. Good times with good people.

Backwoods Antique Merchant
While exploring the backroads of Ohio with Quang Ho we stumbled across this Antique Merchant. With a house filled to the brim with everything from Roman coins to Chinese Checkers, I couldn’t resist getting a portrait of the owner and his collection. He graciously obliged just before he fed his cat, closed shop, and rode off on his bicycle for the evening.

Project: Shantell Martin - "Use Your Voice"
Before / after / and in between. A few images from recent work documenting the ultra gifted NYC based artist Shantell Martin on her latest 16' x 60' mural project entitled, Use Your Voice, on display at AirBNB HQ in San Francisco.
Capturing Shantell in her creation state can be a bit mesmerizing at times. Her process consists of a live drawing that’s a meditative mix of lines, faces, and whimsical characters. With clear messages of positive intent and inspiration it’s hard not to feel good as the viewer.
And... she gives her crew full creative freedom with doughnut breaks! All around good vibes and always a pleasure to work with.

Painting with a Flashlight on a Stick
A chilly round 2 of light paintings in Morrow, Ohio with Quang Ho, one of my all time favorite artists and humans.
For this series of images Quang attached the flashlight to the tip of a 8 foot fallen tree branch which allowed him to view the motions of his strokes from a distance. Generally the flashlight is held by hand. Also this was the first time he's attempted this technique and his 2nd try at light painting.
Over the years I’ve been lucky to watch him work his magic with numerous mediums. And still to this day his range of subjects and styles has yet to lose its essence of surprise. Whether it be on canvas, or with a stick and a flashlight, this guy knows his craft.

For the Love of Photography
Seems like the more I listen, the more I hear people talking about the gear, the business of photography, the widgets. Let us not forget the simple love of photography.
I understand why there’s so much rhetoric in our industry about the business of photography and the gear and the gadgets. There is the common stereotype that most creative people aren’t good business people. There is fear. Gear is easier to talk about than vision. Exposures are exact, the camera dials have numbers. There is a ‘right’ answer to many of these questions.
But where is your love of pictures? Where are your actions that back this up?
Can you pick up a book of photographs and get lost in it?
Can you walk around with your iPhone or Android or your point and shoot or whatever and take 100 pictures knowing that they’ll never be for a client or a portfolio?
Do you love hunting for pictures?
Will you stay up late or get up early for pictures?
Do you sometimes ‘see’ life as a photograph?
It’s different for all of us, but when you can take a break from all the chatter, remind yourself–as often as you can–why you love photography.
While shooting in pitch-black late at a skatepark, these two kids were full of questions. They kept asking "How can a camera work at night?". I gave them a quick lesson with my favorite long exposure technique.
Shantell Martin Light Paintings
Painting with light is far more difficult than one may perceive. Even for the most innately gifted of artists it can prove to be a challenge.
I had the opportunity of working with @shantell_martin recently. So of course I had to ask to her to try her hand at experimenting with the technique. Without hesitation she was in.
Having never attempted this before, it wasn’t more than a couple frames before she had it figured out. Not to mention; we made it work at a not so ideal park in lower downtown and a nearby dark alley.
"Don't Hide" - Project with Shantell Martin
Day 1-4: On assignment shooting the inimitable Shantell Martin creating her latest and largest piece to date, “Don’t Hide” located at the Colorado Convention Center in downtown Denver.
Over the course of four days she allowed me full creative freedom to document her as she took on this massive endeavor of a 20,000 square foot sidewalk mural.
Joking around,I mentioned to her that capturing her process was very similar to capturing a small child or wild animal; erratic movements and completely unpredictable. She Laughed, agreed, and continued on spray painting. As challenging to shoot as she is an absolute pleasure to work with. An inspiring experience to work alongside such a remarkably talented individual and team. Many thanks to Nine Dot Arts and The Denver Theatre District for putting up with me for 4 days straight, and Shantell for the invitation to the mural marathon. The piece is a definite winner.

Awesome Like Possum
Frosty flashback with Rebecca "Possum" Torr. I can't recall exactly how and when Possum starting snowboarding. I do know it was just a few seasons before making this image in Breckenridge. And to top it off, the following winter she was competing in the Winter Olympics in Snowboard Slopestyle. Almost as talented as she is fun to have a beer with. Almost.

Billygoating in the San Juan Mountains
Back in September I went for a semi-sketchy bushwhacking adventure on Red Mountain Pass to get this perspective of the infamous Million Dollar Highway. I learned that granite boulder mine tailings are far from an ideal place to stand, let alone set up a tripod. After some sliding, falling around, and a few surprise moonwalk descents down the crumbling hillside I ended up with a couple stable shots after almost 3 hours of self induced antics. Sometimes you strike out and sometimes you strike gold.
